When Jesus was given the Book of Isaiah to read in the synagogue, He said that those verses describe His mission:
To proclaim good news to the poor. To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovering of sight to the blind. To set at liberty those who are oppressed. To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
When people realized that they were expecting a different Messiah with a different mission, as much as they loved Him before, they planned to kill Him, to silence the voice that was revealing their unbelief. Do we also swing so quickly from love to hate?
